PREGNANCY MASSAGE

Is there a more suitable moment for a woman to get a massage than during pregnancy? Anyone who’s ever had a professional massage knows about the many benefits that this form of therapy can bring to the body; physically and mentally, the same happens with Pregnancy Massages. Pregnancy can be the sweetest moment of a woman’s life, but also the hardest. Your body is going to be challenged in many different ways and it’s wise for you, future mum, to start to think about taking care of yourself and your baby, by introducing in your routine Pregnancy Massages.

A Pregnancy Massage or Prenatal Massage, (using the principle based on Swedish Massage techniques), the aims that are considered are, relaxation, tension, stress and muscle relief, as well as improving blood circulation and lymphatic drainage, by using a variety of gentle techniques.

Swedish Massage is the recommended massage method during pregnancy, because it addresses many common discomforts, associated with the skeletal and circulatory changes brought on by hormone shifts.

Pregnancy massages are adapted for the anatomical changes you go through during your pregnancy. In a traditional relaxation massage, you might spend part of the time lying face- down on your stomach (which is impossible with a baby belly) and another part of the time facing up (position that puts pressure on a major blood vessel that can disrupt blood flow to your baby and leave you feeling nauseous). Instead, for this type of treatment you will lie down on your sides, half treatment on one side, the other half on the other, supported by pillows (one between your leg and another small one just right under the side of the belly) to create the perfect combination of safety and comfort.

Pregnancy Massage is designed to relieve all those discomfort caused by pregnancy by:

• reducing level of stress, by increasing the level of feel-good hormones

• decreasing level of cortisol (an indicator of stress)

• relieving muscles and joints aches and pains

• improving sleep

• reducing swelling

• improving nerve pain (especially sciatica, which is experienced by many women in late pregnancy)

• reducing back pain

• improving circulation

• improving oxygenation of soft tissues and muscles
